How to Use Segmentation in 3DICOM

Using segmentation and interacting with anatomical models in 3DICOM

Overview

This guide shows how to load segmentation files, interact with anatomical structures, and use the Annotiva AI tool in both 2D and 3D views within 3DICOM. Follow the exact steps shown in the product tutorial video.

Step-by-step instructions

Load a segmentation (SEG) file

Step 1. In the left sidebar, find and double-click the SEG file or drag and drop it into the central viewer.

Step 2. Wait for all segments to finish loading onto the scan.

Explore anatomical segments

Step 3. Click the button in the top-right toolbar to open the right sidebar.

Step 4. Scroll within either the scan itself or the right sidebar panel to browse available segments.

Step 5. Click a segment name (for example, Liver) in the right panel to bring it into the viewport and click the eye icon beside any segment to hide it or click it again to display the segment.

Step 6. Click on other anatomical structures in the right panel to see each organ or structure, and observe their distinct color coding.

Use the Annotiva AI tool in 2D

Step 1. In the top toolbar, click the magic-wand icon to open Annotiva AI.

Step 2. With Annotiva AI active, click directly on any visible segment in the view to learn more about that region (for example, select the lung middle lobe).

Step 3. Navigate to a different segment and click to open another information panel.

Switch to 3D view and interact with models

Step 1. In the top toolbar, click Change Layout and select 3D only.

Step 2. Open the Rendering Presets panel at the bottom left of the viewport to improve segment visibility.

Step 3. Browse the available preset thumbnail options, then click Cancel to return to the default view.

Step 4. Interact directly with the 3D model by rotating it to view from different perspectives.

Step 5. For example, select Liver in the right panel to highlight and locate this structure in the 3D model.

Step 6. With Annotiva AI tool, click on a 3D segment (for example, the Thyroid Gland) to get detailed information about that region.

Repeat this process on any segment in the list to explore anatomical details.

Hide or show all segments

Step 1. To hide all segments at once, click the eye icon in the right sidebar.

Step 22. Click the eye icon again to bring them all back.

Result

After following these steps, you will have loaded a segmentation file, explored and manipulated anatomical structures in 2D and 3D, and used Annotiva AI to obtain detailed information about specific regions.
